Chile is among the most advanced e-commerce markets in Latin America, according to recent reports by Americas Market Intelligence (AMI). In Chile, spending on goods and services through e-commerce is equivalent to USD 975 per year (2022) per capita, which accounts for 9% of personal private consumption, according to AMI analyses available with our E-commerce Data Library. By contrast, average e-commerce spending in Latin America is just USD 473.
“Chile basically has the highest banking penetration in Latin America, if we consider the penetration of traditional bank accounts and the use of fintech solutions, such as Superdigital, Chek, etc.,” explains Lindsay Lehr, Head of Payments Practice at AMI. In Chile, banking penetration (traditional + digital) is 97%, according to AMI data—higher than that of economies such as Brazil (96%) and Argentina (95%).
That said, it is worth understanding how Chileans buy online, to identify trends and opportunities that have an impact on the market.
