Despite the economic downturn and challenges with currency depreciation, e-commerce is still strongly on the rise in Latin America in 2016 and beyond. According BI Intelligence, e-commerce in Latin America will grow by a CAGR of 17% through 2019 to reach $85 billion.

While no recent study includes a list of the products that Latin American online shoppers buy the most across the region or e-commerce sales by product for the region, specific country studies offer some solid indications that allow for comparison of commonalities. With that in mind, here are the top-selling e-commerce products in key Latin American markets.

For comparison purposes, we recommend you review e-commerce sales data for all of Latin America in 2019, as well as for individual markets in 2019 like Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru. According to the Cámara Argentina de Comercio Electrónico (CACE), the top 5 products that Argentines buy the most via e-commerce are: 

– Plane tickets

– Hotel reservations

– Mobile phones

– TVs

– Car accessories


A 2016 study from Captura Consulting indicated the most popular e-commerce products among online shoppers in Bolivia:

– Electronics (63%)

– Apps, games, music and movies (58%)

– Services payments (53%)

– Streaming services (43%)

– Internet advertising (36%)

– Clothes and home décor (36%)

– Online courses (29%)

– Books (27%)

– Plane tickets and hotel reservations (27%)

– Event tickets (26%)

– Personal care (12%)

– Other  (16%)


According to E-bit’s 34th WebShoppers report that covers the first 6 months of e-commerce transactions in Brazil for 2016, the top-selling e-commerce products among Brazilian shoppers are:

– Books and subscriptions

– Appliances

– Fashion and accessories

– Health products, cosmetics and perfumes

– Mobile phones

– Home décor products

– Computer products

– Electronic products

– Sports and leisure products

– Toys and games

Now, these results differed somewhat from an additional survey that Ebit conducted of 7,809 Brazilian online shoppers between June and July 2016. In that survey, the best-selling products among Brazilian online shoppers were:

  1. Mobile phones
  2. Women’s fashions and accessories
  3. Men’s fashions and accessories
  4. Perfumes
  5. Sports and leisure products



A 2016 survey of Chilean online shoppers done by Chile3D and GfK indicates that the top-selling e-commerce products in Chile are:

– Clothing (38%)

– Technology products (32%)

– Plane tickets (19%)

– Tickets to events (15%)

– Discount coupons (11%)


The Observatorio de Compra Online from the Cámara Colombiana de Comercio Electrónico for 2016 indicates that the best-selling e-commerce products among Colombian online shoppers were:

– Fashion products

– Electronics

– Food

– Beauty

– Cultural products (books/magazines)

– Home décor products

– Sports products

– Medicines

Unlike other organizations, the Cámara Colombiana de Comercio Electrónico does not seem to group both products and services purchased online in terms of sales. As such, the study highlights the top services that Colombian e-shoppers have purchased the most online in 2016:

  1. Travel (e.g. plane tickets)
  2. Events tickets
  3. Telecommunications
  4. Banking
  5. Insurance


The 2016 e-commerce study from Asociación Mexicana de Internet (AMIPCI) shows that the best-selling e-commerce products among online shoppers in Mexico are: 

– Clothes and accessories (53%)

– Digital downloads (46%)

– Event tickets (37%)

– Videogames, consoles and accessories (22%)

– Furniture, appliances and equipment (21%)

– Games and entertainment (19%)

– Computer software (19%)

– Consumer electronics (18%)

– Jewelry and watches (18%)

– Sports and wellness products (18%)
