In Energy

We wanted to add a different dimension to our in-depth analysis of LatAm’s energy industry, which includes uncovering opportunities in different markets, detailing companies’ unique competitive strategies, and revealing the market size and growth trajectories of different electrical products sold in Latin America.

That dimension is people: specifically, the leaders of top energy companies operating in the region. So we’re creating an interview series called Powering the Future, in which we ask these leaders about their career paths, the energy issues they see as most critical and what they expect to see in the coming years.

To start off the Powering the Future Series, we sat down with Aurelio Oliveira, CEO of Enel Américas. Enel’s distribution companies now service around 23 million people across Latin America, the company has more than 14 gigawatts of installed generation capacity and 90% of that is renewable energy. We talked with Aurelio about his background, the projects he has worked on, the challenges of decarbonizing during a period of higher electricity demand, the impact of high interest rates on renewable energy investment, delays caused by long permitting times, and other crucial topics.

Below you can see the full interview.
