The WHO recently declared that Latin America as the new epicenter for COVID-19 and Dr. Carissa Etienne, director of the Pan American Health Organization, warned on June 9 that the crisis has “pushed our region to the limit.”
As of mid-June, several Latin American countries were among the top 15 most affected in the world:
Brazil: 739,503 cases, 38,406 deaths (#2 in the world after the U.S.)
Peru: 199,696 cases, 5,571 deaths (#8)
Chile: 148,456 cases, 2,475 deaths (#13)
Mexico: 124,301 cases, 14,649 deaths (#14)
