Latin America’s clean energy is going to waste.

Why? A massive grid gap. Problems include:

  • Huge distances between where renewable energy is produced and where demand centers are located
  • In some countries, transmission lines are already at capacity—so the plants are shut off and the energy disappears
  • In other countries, renewable projects are ready to be built but there is no transmission line to connect them to

The infographic below — developed by AMI’s energy market research practice — breaks down the figures that highlight the problem. It also details the actions that Latin American countries are taking to address it.
