Argentina’s economic development continues to offer mixed signals. When comparing October 2022 retail sales vs. October 2021 retail sales for small and medium sized businesses (SMBs), the Confederación Argentina de la Mediana Empresa (Argentina Confederation of Medium-Sized Businesses or CAME as per the Spanish-language acronym) reported a year-over-year decrease of 3.2%. On the positive side, CAME reports that thus far in 2022, Argentine SMBs have seen a modest 1.8% increase in sales.
That said, organizations such as the National Institute of Statistics and Census (Instituto Nacional de Estadística y Censos or INDEC) indicate that there have been impressive increases in different economic sectors, such as a 126.2% year-over-year increase (at current prices) in retail sales made at shopping malls in Argentina, at least up until September 2022.
In terms of one of Argentina’s leading economic indicators, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) estimates that Argentina’s GDP will grow by 4.4% in 2022, with an 8.8% increase in private consumption. But the OECD projects just 0.5% GDP growth for Argentina in 2023 and private consumption growth of only 0.3%.
Given these mixed indicators, the growth in a few sectors seems to offer SOME notes of optimism (or perhaps opportunities). As such, below we highlight some of the best-selling products in Argentina in 2022.
INDEC recently published its survey of appliances and home products manufacturers, noting sales grow in Q3 2022 versus Q3 2021. According to INDEC, these are some of the top-selling products in this vertical in Argentina.
